Hummbug create a bespoke harmony with the synchronicity of each members input into the band resulting in a satisfying and warmly unique sound. With each member of the group complimenting each other’s role perfectly the aptly named Retro Suites guides the listener through a musical journey in a reminiscence of 60s pop with distinguishing modern production techniques.
“Collectively” says Dave “we all have reasonably different tastes, but they all work when put together. I like introspective, acoustic material with a lot of soul. Calvin’s very groove orientated, and really loves hard-driving rhythms, and Tony is all about harmonies and squeezing as much melody into the gaps as possible.
But because we have all known each other for so long, we can accommodate all of that and create something fresh as a whole. The end result is what happens when we all put as much of our own personal perspectives together.”
The album is a melodic and summery collection of human emotion but with subtle references to the darker sides of modern life.
