Astroboy is the experimental electronica project of Ady Simmonds, who has been making music since 1998. Astroboy has a very detailed, layered approach to his compositions where sounds and samples are manipulated heavily and used as textures rather than simple loops. The music is usually quite visual and can be influenced by a variety of sources including (but certainly not limited to) video games, early to mid nineties Warp artists, nature, esoteric spirituality and even alternative music.
Whilst Astroboy’s music is largely instrumental, he does, on occasion work with vocalists or even provides his own vocals and lyrics when necessary. However, for the most part, Astroboy attempts to communicate with the listener through his music in a way that transcends words and resonates on a purely subconscious, emotional level. He is also very interested in synaesthesia, where words, sounds and colours are combined and blended interchangeably. Thus, Astroboy’s music also attempts to convey this concept through his use of sounds, and how they are interpreted by the listener.
Astroboy is currently working on new material for eventual release in the new year.
