Sarah-Jayne – Interview

Where do you live and how did it all start for you?

West London. I was born in Windsor, my family moved to Australia for a few a years and then returned to the UK when I was 9 and I lived in East Anglia until I moved to where I am now.

How many years have you been a pianist and what grades have you got?

I have played since I was 6 and I am a grade 8 pianist.

When did you start to write your own songs? and how did you discover your voice?

I started composing my own little pieces when I was learning to play the piano as I rebelled against what someone else had written. I discovered my voice when started composing songs as it was the only way I could really express the melodies. I am a self-taught vocalist.

Who or where do you draw inspiration from when writing?

Prior to working with Chris Grabiec I drew my inspiration from observing others and generally experiencing life, loss, happiness and sadness.

How do you approach new projects and working in different genres?

Until recently I had only focused on acoustic, pop-rock and classical genres. Since meeting Chris I have now been exposed to electronic music, particularly Trance. As Trance is essentially very melodic and uses the same musical feel as movie soundtracks it was not a difficult transition.

What’s it like collaborating with Chris Grabiec for his new album?

It’s been a great experience and the tracks are coming along very nicely. Each track is very emotional and melodic and I think when complete this will be an amazing achievement for us both.

Do you have any plans for releases yourself?

I am planning to start production on my solo artist album later this year.

Can we hear any of your music now?

Yes you can find our debut release “Lost My Way” as well as other finished pieces on YouTube – http://www.youtube.com/user/ChrisGrabiec.

What are your plans for 2012?

The album release, getting married and going on honeymoon with Chris this summer and making a start on my solo album.
